If you haven’t installed DivX Web Player yet you will have to do it in order to be able to watch. The quality is better though and the episode is not cut to parts :)

I hope none of you shut off the TV after that first, post-elevator fade to black, and thus didn’t see that final quick-cut montage of Ellen’s struggle with… whomever. (Careful freeze-framing and slo-mo play deciphered little about her ultimate attacker, save for he has a seemingly full head of dark hair.) I almost thought the episode was over, but I guess The Sopranos taught me to wait out the empty screens.

As I sat here two-thirds of the way through, I was readying to write here that nothing much of the twisty or twisted sort happened this week. And then the hubby’s sweeeeeet ride got smacked, the son got abducted — by Mom’s doing! — we learned Michael was behind the grenade, and we saw poor Ellen get screwed yet again. (And not in the same way as Katie… by Greg.)

What a sobering salvo of scenes!

What else have we learned?

  • Greg is married, and apparently has no tie to Frobisher.
  • Patty doesn’t suffer slackers spooked by bomb threats.
  • Patty agrees with me that the Statue of Liberty bookends are hideous.
  • Son Michael fancies MILFs and "Cornhole Capers"(?)
  • Tom is getting disgruntled — as well he should!
  • Patty likes opera music… as did Michael Douglas’ adulterous fling in a certain 1980s potboiler.

What am I loving about Damages? The pacing. The way scenes can last but a few moments before they toggle back to a different branch of the story, and then back again. I love how they keep us guessing, though the "Maybe Patty is OK… oh, no, she’s a hellion!" seesaw act could get tired. I love Frobisher, especially the way he said, "Ya think?" to the lawyer midsandwich. Had me going.

What don’t I love? The episode titles suck, to be frank, being neither clever nor indicating anything about the content. Rather, they seem to be random lines of dialogue that perhaps drew a giggle in the writers’ room. Outside of that quibble, that’s about it, for now.

So… Ellen was "dis-engaged" to the boyfriend at the time he got whacked. Interesting… though not 100 percent shocking. I’ve gotta learn his name soon. (Interviewing the actor in a few days, ha!)
